Remember to Slow Things Down…

One lesson life continues to teach me – again and again – is the beauty and necessity of slowing down.

For me, this lesson began in the most life-altering way: surviving a fatal car accident (you can read my full testimony here. Since then, it’s resurfaced in quieter moments – especially when things don’t go “my way.”

I’ve since found deep truth in the opening line of Oprah’s Super Soul podcast, which beautifully captures the essence of this lesson:

“I believe that one of the most valuable gifts you can give yourself is time. Taking time to be more fully present!”

While this realisation transformed my life in general, it also found its way into my business practice. My introduction to slow fashion came while conducting my Bachelor of Technology research in Fashion Design.

UP_PHELELE T-shirt collection launching next week!

I’ve written in detail about slow fashion and how UP_PHELELE embodies this movement here. Since that first step, my journey has expanded into exploring interconnected concepts such as: Environmental and social sustainability, User-Centric Design (UCD), Circularity and Modular Design.

All of these stem from the growing awareness of the negative impact the fashion industry has had on our planet and the urgent need to create better systems.

I’d love for you to join us in exploring these topics further through our WhatsApp Channel. Every Thursday, we share an informative post about sustainability, design, or conscious living, and a poll to spark conversation and help us reflect on how we can apply these ideas in our everyday lives

Let’s make the change together – one slow, intentional step at a time, and always remember to embrace, celebrate, and Wear Your Uniqueness 👌🏾
