First things first – how is this year flying by so fast? It feels like just yesterday we shared the announcement of this year’s theme – read it here – and now, just like that, the main event has come and gone!
That said, what a spectacle it was. The HollywoodBets Durban July 2025 served unapologetic glamour, bold cultural expression, and fashion moments worth remembering. From traditional symbolism to futuristic fantasy, the red carpet (or shall we say, green turf) saw it all.
Here’s a short and sweet roundup of our Top 6 favourite looks – in no particular order. Let’s celebrate the artistry that left us breathless:
Sarah Langa
Nothing excites us more than a guest who understands the assignment and Sarah Langa understood it perfectly! Dressed in a striking black and gold ensemble, she embodied the opulence and attitude of South Africa’s iconic Skhothane subculture.
Although we secretly wished for a collab with a local fashion house, this look was so well-executed we’ll let it slide… just this once.
Mzukisi Mbane
IMPRINT ZA has done it again and with designer Mzukisi Mbane as muse, the result was nothing short of spectacular. Drawing from rich inspiration, this look balanced craftsmanship, bold colour play, and texture with effortless confidence.
Proof that menswear can be expressive, fun, and deeply meaningful!
Anele Zondo
Bayede! What a stunning homage to Zulu culture. Anele Zondo transformed the traditional icansi (Zulu grass mat) into a modern-day masterpiece, delivering regality, strength, and symbolism in one unforgettable look.
We imagine it wasn’t the most comfortable fabric, but as Mama always said: “You suffer for beauty, my dear!”
Uyanda Hlangabezo
We were enchanted by this vibrant blue three-piece suit featuring a majestic print with golden undertones – reminiscent of an African dusk sky.
The tailoring was pristine and the fabric? It gave us African Wax Print: Evening-wear Edition. Concept, colour, construction – a 10 out of 10!
Thando Thabethe
Described as “A Love Letter to South Africa’s Soul”, Thando’s gown was everything and more. The silhouette flattered her perfectly, while delicate appliqué flowers and diamanté detailing elevated the look to ethereal levels.
And can we talk about the lighting of her photoshoot? Pure magic!
Phupho Gumede K
Last but never least – Mr. Gumede served gold with no apologies!
Donning black tailored pants and a sculpted gold top with a futuristic peplum flare, this look screamed Refinery royalty. It was bold, architectural, and confidently extra. In short: a whole moment.
